Stowe is the quintessential Vermont mountain town with postcard vistas punctuated by a soaring church steeple and Vermont’s highest peak, Mount Mansfield. The town began as an early 19th-century farming and mill community and gradually evolved into a year-round recreational and vacation destination.
Vermont is known for its beer and cheese (heaven on Earth) and Stowe is no exception. Fun fact: Vermont has more breweries per capita than any other state in the US; Vermont produces 19.8 gallons of beer per 21+ adult, per year. With many local breweries, wineries, cideries and distilleries within a few miles of the Village, Stowe is the perfect place to explore Vermont’s craft beverage scene, including the renowned Alchemist Brewery and for those of you willing to drive a bit, Hill Farmstead Brewery.
Stowe Village is also bustling with farm-to-table dining (where you can order almost any meal with a side of Vermont cheddar). We've put together a list of our favorite restaurants on our Eat + Drink page.
The tiny Main Street is exceedingly charming, with the white-steepled church as its focal point. Stop into Shaw’s General Store for a foray into the past, Bear Pond Books for reading material, and browse locally owned boutiques, craft, and antique shops galore.
You’ll also find local favorites like the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory and Cabot cheddar (Natalie’s favorite too).
Stowe is also a haven for nature-lovers seeking a plethora of outdoor adventures. Step outside to breath in the fresh, crisp mountain air and discover everything from hidden swimming holes to untrodden hiking trails.
Autumn is a festive time of the year in Stowe. While it varies from year to year, Stowe's peak foliage typically occurs in early October. This means that there will be less crowds while we're celebrating--no complaints here. As for weather, if the trees are cold, my Miami people probably will be too. Average temperates range from the low 30s to the low 50s.
In addition to our scheduled Events, we put together list of suggested places to stay, eat + drink, and explore to help you make the most of your time in Stowe with us. We hope you love Stowe as much as we do!
